    Are you connected to a network? Are you working from home? Do you have the office disk in the cd rom drive? What is your email program?

    Re: Send Mail Recipient Fails (Word 2000)

    I am on a network at home. But the machine in question is the "server" in the that's connected to the hub.

    I don't have the office disk in the cd rom drive. it's not asking for it. I think the problem may be it's trying to locate a service pack which is no longer on the hard drive.

    I'm using Outlook 2000.

    Re: Send Mail Recipient Fails (Word 2000)

    This MSKB article was suggested in a previous post:

    "One of the above error messages may appear if the locally cached Windows Installer package (*.msi) file is damaged or corrupted."
    OFF2000: Error Message: The Installation Package Could Not Be Opened

    One other random explanation for Windows 9x systems:

    "This problem can occur if the name of the network share from which you are running Setup is longer than 12 characters (13 characters or more)."
    OFF2000: Error Message When You Run Setup: This Installation Package Could Not Be Opened ...

    Re: Send Mail Recipient Fails (Word 2000)

    Thanks,

    But must be something else. The error message says "this patch" not "this installation".

    I'm not sure, but it seems like after having applied SR-1a and SR-2 -- the registry is looking for an MSI that isn't there and isn't willing to look somewhere else.

    The log file in the temp folder reads:

    DEBUG: Error 2203: Database: {ADDDA8A2-EEE3-11D3-AED5-00C04F022C53}. Cannot open database file. System error -2147287038
    1: 2203 2: {ADDDA8A2-EEE3-11D3-AED5-00C04F022C53} 3: -2147287038
    This patch package could not be opened. Verify that the patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer patch package.
    {ADDDA8A2-EEE3-11D3-AED5-00C04F022C53}

    When I look up this clsid in the registry, I find:

    REGEDIT4

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREClassesInstallerPatches2 A8ADDDA3EEE3D11EA5D000CF420C235]

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREClassesInstallerPatches2 A8ADDDA3EEE3D11EA5D000CF420C235SourceList]
    "PackageName"="{ADDDA8A2-EEE3-11D3-AED5-00C04F022C53}"

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREClassesInstallerPatches2 A8ADDDA3EEE3D11EA5D000CF420C235SourceListMedia]
    "DiskPrompt"="Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1 Premium"
    "6500"="OfficeSR1;SR1"

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREClassesInstallerPatches2 A8ADDDA3EEE3D11EA5D000CF420C235SourceListNet]

    Which doesn't really shed light on what it's looking for.

    Re: Send Mail Recipient Fails (Word 2000)

    Update.

    By hacking the registsry according to some notes found in a newsgroups post:
    <hr>
    2/ Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREClassesInstallerPatches, backup that
    registry key and delete all Office related subkeys (look at each
    <identifier>SourceListMedia subkey. If all subkeys are related to Office
    (which is likely to be the case) , merely delete
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREClassesInstallerPatches itself.

    3/ Backup and delete
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREClassesInstallerProducts 904000001E872D116BF0
    0006799C897EPatches
    <hr>

    I managed to get Detect and Repair to work.

    But still, when I try to Mail To Recipient, I get the error "Word could not load the e-mail envelope..."

    Guess it's time to upgrade to Office XP.

    In the process of trying to find a fix I found a utility that cleans out installer reg strings. It might be useful to some lounger...

    Windows Installer CleanUp Utility

    Re: Send Mail Recipient Fails (Word 2000)

    Hi Guy:
    It may be related to Outlook not running or the Office Profile Wizard. See this article.
    Hope this helps,

    Re: Send Mail Recipient Fails (Word 2000)

    Good idea.

    But it didn't help.

    I think my registry is corrupted or the user profile. I'm having all kinds of problems since installing XP over 2K
