'Cannot Empty Clipboard' (97/SR2)

Every once in a while, I get a dialog box in Excel when I'm attempting to paste something. It says "Cannot empty the clipboard". The only button available is "OK". Once I click the OK button, the paste happens, but this breaks my "paste unformatted" macro. The dialog box will continue to appear every time I try to paste anything in Excel until I reboot. Sometimes closing Excel for a minute or two will make the dialog box go away for a little while, but it comes back. I've searched the MS site, but the KB article references a third party software called "Get Right" which I don't have installed on my system.

If it matters, I'm running NT 4.0 SP5.

I had this problem, though I don't know if the same solution will fix. The PROBLEM is that some program is monitoring or saving the clipboard and is preventing excel from clearing it.

The program that was a problem for me was GETRIGHT. If you are using this:
Right-click on the icon and select configuration
On the "Monitor" tab
Uncheck "Monitor clipboard"
<OK> to save

If it is something else, you will first have to discover what it is

Thank you for your help! Unfortunately, I'm not using GETRIGHT. I'm not aware that there is anything installed on my system which is monitoring the clipboard, unless it is the anti-virus software.

Try closing down the "background" programs one-by-one and then run excel to look for the error. Once you discover the program you can check its website or HELP to find ways to not monitor the clipboard
