    Multiple mailings

    Greetings all,
Can anyone suggest why I get this Forum mailing list twice?
I am on other mailing lists (not associated with WOPR) and it doesn't happen with them.
I am not on any other WOPR lists so I do not know if it would happen with them.
I am using Eudora but as this is the only mail out which does it to me I feel that the most likely cause is somewhere at the WOPR end.
Would it be possible that I am registered twice as wishing to receive this list? How can I check that?
    Cheers, Ken <img src=/S/aussie.gif border=0 alt=aussie width=21 height=22>

Have you registered with the Lounge more than once?
Are you talking about the daily archive for the Software Finds and Wants? (I moved this thread from there as I felt it was more a Lounge matter than specific to a single Forum.)
Are you using something like Outlook with any rules set up?

Unless he's registered under another address, I can't find a duplicate.
Is anybody else receiving multiple Digests?

    Re: Multiple mailings

    Thanks Leif.
No, I have not registered twice - at least not intentionally. I did have a break in my visits to the lounge which was long enough that I received a reminder that my registration would be dropped if I didn't do something, but I do not believe I registered a second time.
Yes I was talking about the daily archive of Software Wants and Finds. I raised it there because for me it is unique to that Forum. I will add this forum to my list and see what happens.
I do have Outlook and use it on a daily basis, but not as my e-mail program. I am using Eudora on a simple dial-up line.
    Cheers

    Re: Multiple mailings

    My apologies, Eileen and Leif,
I have looked more closely at what is happening (instead of just reading the various posts and realising that I'd already seen it) and I am not receiving multiple mailings per se. What is actually happening (sometimes) is that successive lists of daily archives include some of the previous day's archives.
    For example threads #163855, 164045, 064048, 164050, 164065, 163932, 163934, 163947, 163949 and 163954 appear on both the archive for 31July and 1 August.
Threads #164552, 164568, 164598, 164621, 164624 and 164635 are amongst those which appear on both 2 and 3 August lists.
It doesn't seem to happen all the time, and has, I think, stopped again at the moment. What made it obvious at the time was the long discussion of AVG, McAfee and ZA.
    If this helps resolve what happened I'm happy. <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

    Re: Multiple mailings

I have this problem all the time in several different Boards. i would have thought that once a post had been archived and sent out, that it would have a mark against it to prevent it being sent in another archive.

I rely on the archives to get most of what I want from the Lounge, but seeing double wastes so much time I find myself skipping through and probably missing new stuff. I suppose the advantage is that the new stuff will be there twice as well so I might see it the second time. it also doubles the size of my saved posts.

Surely we are not the only ones to experience this problem. If I get double, everyone must get double. If it happens to you speak up and lets get it sorted. Just think of the bandwidth the lounge must be wasting.

Dont get me wrong, the lounge is a great resource but this IS a hassle.

I did also mention this problem a way back but got no reasonable answer.

    Re: Multiple mailings

Thank you Douglas. I was beginning to think it was peculiar to my machine/mailing system/connection to the board ... whatever. And it is extremely irritating when there is a long list. You do lose interest in reading everything for a second time and it does tend to make you miss the new ones as you try to skip past the repeats.
Can anything be done about this, Eileen or Claude or ... ?
    Cheers
    Ken

    Re: Multiple mailings

I'm pretty certain that what you are seeing is posts that have been edited.
If you could zip up a couple digests that show duplicates of one another and email them to me, I'll check them out.

    Re: Multiple mailings

Thanks Eileen. I'll do the zip thing when I have a little more time but not having sent attachments to the board before I'd prefer to take my time over preparing that. In the meantime, the Daily Archive of Loung matters for 15 and 16 Aug 2001 both contain what seem to me to be identical threads numbered 168740, 168742, 168743 and 168746. Hope that helps.
    Cheers
    Ken

    Re: Multiple mailings

Don't post the zip here as an attachment, EMAIL it directly to me!

Okay but what address do I use to e-mail to you direct, Eileen? Or can I do that through the board somehow?

You can find anybody's address (if they have given it) in their Profile. Mine's mom@wopr.com.
