Open (link) in New Window not working (6.0.26 w/ Q321232 applied)

Whenever I click on a link which is supposed to open up a new window, whether it be a Java scripted link or a simple html link defined to open up in a new window, my IE just opens a window but then there is NO activity. I ran and installed all latest IE additions via Windows update to check I was up to date, but no joy.

    Help would be much appreciated!

Brilliant !! It worked. thanks very much.

Question - how did you get to learn something seemingly (to me) so obscure?

Glad that worked!! I think I discovered that in the Windows 2000/XP FAQ newsletter. I suffer from an overdose of e-zines, and when I see a cool tip I try to save it in a little TIPS.TXT file that I keep on my desktop. This issue is one that's bitten me before so when I read your post, I looked through that little text file and found it (once bitten, twice shy).

Sounds like a broken DLL somewhere. Try this first - it will re-register the system DLL that monitors link activity:

Click on Start - Run and enter
    <pre>regsvr32 shdocvw.dll</pre>

Some other dlls to register for hyperlinks, if that doesn't work:

    <UL><LI>regsvr32 urlmon.dll
    <LI>regsvr32 mshtml.dll
    <LI>regsvr32 msjava.dll
    <LI>regsvr32 browseui.dll
    <LI>regsvr32 oleaut32.dll
    <LI>regsvr32 actxprxy.dll[/list]
