I like TweakUI's ability to create some of the shell folders as icons that I can move to other locations in my start folder, like Control Panel and Printers. These Tweak-created icons retain their ability to 'fly-out' the folder's contents, as opposed to a regular shortcut which does not.

In Windows 2000 there are two folders I'd like to create that Tweak doesn't let me: Scheduled Tasks and Network and Dial-up Connections. How does Tweak create these icons? I was able to get the Scheduled Tasks icon by running Tweak on an NT 4 system, but The Network folder eludes me. Any help is appreciated!

    Re: TweakUI

It's a bit tricky to do this. The folders you're trying to create are special, hardwired folders that are defined in the registry. TweakUI does it by using the CLSID for that folder in the registry (remember that TweakUI is really a glorified means of editing your system registry). By the way, you can place these special folders anywhere you like - they will cascade off of the start menu and appear as "special" icons elsewhere.

Note, though, that not all of these will work properly under NT (up to and including XP), due to the user profiles and such, but many will and nearly all do under 9x. You can search through the registry for the proper key name and experiement for yourself. The numbers are the CLSID, which is a globally unique identifier for certain objects within Windows.

If you want to create them yourself, try using the following steps.

    1.
Create a new folder where you want the special folder to appear.

Rename the folder.

Paste the following in as the folder's name - exactly as shown:
