    Historical data (IE6)

This is one of those silly little problems that don't really matter but bug the hell out of you when you hit them each time! <img src=/S/hairout.gif border=0 alt=hairout width=31 height=23>

When you go to log into a site, a lot of the time as soon as you type something in the login box it brings up a list of possible options and you can select one rather than typing it - how do you remove something from this list, please??

Also, how do you remove items from the list of sites that comes up when you start typing an address in the Address field? Is it connected to the history list?

I would be really grateful if anyone could tell me these!

Have you tried just pressing your down-arrow key and hitting delete?

I use Pop-Up Stopper which has options for clearing such entries.

    Re: Historical data (IE6)

There are actually several things going on here, and you have several options. You are talking about the "AutoComplete" function. IE can use AutoComplete to fill-in blanks on form, passwords, or IP addresses. You can turn off each of these functions by adjusting the AutoComplete Settings. This can be reached through Tools | Internet Options... | Content tab | AutoComplete... Also in this box you can choose to Clear ALL form data and ALL passwords. However, this box does not let you delete single entries.

To delete a SINGLE entry on a drop-down list, simply use the down arrow to select the item, and then press the Delete key. That item will no longer appear on the list. There is also an interesting program called "AutoWhat?" that allows you to selectively go through your stored form data and delete various entries.

Now, the list that drops down when typing in the Address bar is actually from a combination of sources. Part of it comes from the History folder -- but it also contains the list of "Typed URL's" that are stored in the reigstry. On this Win2K box, this list is user specific and it can be found here:

    HKEY_USERS(long number)SoftwareMicrosoftInternet ExplorerTypedURLs

Where (long number) is the number identifying this user.

Even those this data is not kept in the "History" folder itself, the TypedURLs data is also Deleted by selecting the "Clear History" button on the Tools | Internet Options... | General tab. This will eliminate almost all the URL drop-downs from the Address bar -- but some may still persist!
