Media Player Sound Hang (XP Home)

I have a machine w/ XPH on it and when regular audio CDs are played in either of the CD trays, the sound will disappear - not just the music, but the entire system sound. The media player still shows that the music is playing, but the sound no longer generates through the speakers. The system sound (notification, asterisk, error, recycle bin, etc) also hangs. Now if I shut down and reboot, it will be fine, but this happens routinely w/o any rhyme or pattern. The CD (any regular purchased music) will be happily playing along and then the sound will just go out.

I have checked the M$ HCL, ran Mplayer2 & dxdialog and everything passes. Drivers current for sound, display, CD-ROM & CD-RW. I wish to remedy standing WMP rather than install another player.

M$KB articles didn't offer anything beyond the aforementioned. Anyone experienced this problemo??

Are these the new copy protected type of CDs that are NOT to be run in a computer or a older CD player?

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

<IMG SRC=http://www.krymow.com/images/cd.gif> No, Dave, these are not the copy protected type of CDs. This happens with regular commercial CDs and burnt CDs.
