    Cookie: anyuser (IE6.0.2600)

    Had to reformat & reinstall my WinME this past weekend.
    I found something very strange in IE>Tools>InternetOptions>TemporaryInternetFiles>Se ttings>ViewFiles.
    I can't post an attachment..my MSPaint is taking only .bmp <img src=/S/frown.gif border=0 alt=frown width=15 height=15>...so I will have to type it out:
    Name = Cookie:anyuser
    Internet Address = Cookie:anyuser@whatever web address listed.
    I want the 'anyuser' to be replaced with my name.
    Does anyone know where to fix this? Is this a Registry fix? Or????
    <img src=/S/thankyou.gif border=0 alt=thankyou width=40 height=15> for any and all help on this.

    Re: Cookie: anyuser (IE6.0.2600)

    If MS Paint does not have the GIF and JPG converters, I can give you the instructions to fix that.

    Windows is supposed to use the "user name" for your cookies. This must be in the registry. Let me find it...

    Here are the places where my name appears in the registry that MIGHT be possible:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftMS Setup (ACME)User Info
    DefName=

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINENetworkLogon
    username=

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftProtected Storage System Provider[my name]

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentV ersion
    Registered Owner=

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentV ersionProfileList[my name]

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwarePoliciesMTMF Settings
    Reg-name=

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrentControlSetControl
    CurrentUser=
    ___________________

    But my first guess would be this one:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINENetworkLogon
    username=

    Or something similar.

    Re: Cookie: anyuser (IE6.0.2600)

    Went through the entire listing...most of those named, I don't even have. BUT...the 'local machinenetworklogon=username' one I did have..but that one was already correct.
    I rebooted,etc...but still shows 'anyuser' in IE. <img src=/S/hairout.gif border=0 alt=hairout width=31 height=23>

    <img src=/S/sigh.gif border=0 alt=sigh width=15 height=15> I don't have Microsoft Office 2000 on this computer...not that I can find anyway. <img src=/S/frown.gif border=0 alt=frown width=15 height=15>.

    I also had that MS Paint Fix , but it doesn't seem to work either...still keeps .bmp only..no .jpeg, etc listed in the dropdown in Paint.
    My WinME is the OEM...and they don't always install on the cd what the user 'needs'... <img src=/S/hairout.gif border=0 alt=hairout width=31 height=23> ...my cds are the 'restore' type.
    <img src=/S/razz.gif border=0 alt=razz width=25 height=17> <img src=/S/razz.gif border=0 alt=razz width=25 height=17> <img src=/S/razz.gif border=0 alt=razz width=25 height=17> to the OEM !

    Re: Cookie: anyuser (IE6.0.2600)

    Let's take one issue at a time. I will have to watch exactly how cookies are formed to figure out what line in the registry is used. Did your Search your registry for "username"? That might pick up something useful.

    Let's move to the MS Paint issue. Forget the Office2K stuff -- like I said, that is almost never the solution. I have fixed this on several machines, so let me tell you what is the most important aspects:

    1) Make sure that you have jpegim32.flt and gifimp32.flt in both places:

    C:Program FilesCommon FilesMicrosoft Sharedgrphflt
    C:WindowsMsAppsGrphflt

    2) In HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftShared ToolsGraphics FiltersExportJPEG, make sure that the "Data" value shows only "jpg". If it shows "jpg, jpeg", it will not work.

    3) If those things do not work, you MUST run the four .reg file availabe here. They create the necessary Image API keys and make a few other adjustments.

    There may be other ways to fix this -- like installing Office -- but this frequently will fix the problem.

    Re: Cookie: anyuser (IE6.0.2600)

    ...this probably doesn't mean anything, but C:Programs is an odd name. Usually it is C:Program Files. This is a system folder and is used by the OS. It cannot be modified in quite the same ways as an ordinary directory.
    Sorry if I missed this, but have you done a Delete of Cookies and Files in IE, and via Settings, allocated a reasonable (say 50Mb) amount of disk space?

    Re: Cookie: anyuser (IE6.0.2600)

    OK, I swear I won't forget your original question! ;-]

    The MS Paint filters will never work if you don't have the *.flt files in the correct locations. Having "gifimp32.flt in C:Program( File)s" is not going to cut it. You need to have gifimp32.flt and *jpegim32.flt* in both:

    C:Program FilesCommon FilesMicrosoft Sharedgrphflt
    C:WindowsMsAppsGrphflt

    If you don't have the "JPEG Import/Export Graphic Filter" (jpegim32.flt) in the right place, then you cannot expect MS Paint to create the Save As... Jpg option. Windows expects to find the filters in those locations -- because the registry tells it that the files can be found there. You may note these registry values:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftShared ToolsJPEG]
    "Path"="C:Program FilesCommon FilesMicrosoft SharedGrphfltJPEGIM32.FLT"

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftShared ToolsGraphics FiltersExportJPEG]
    "Path"="C:Program FilesCommon FilesMicrosoft SharedGrphfltJPEGIM32.FLT"

    -or- you may find this:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftShared ToolsGraphics FiltersExportJPEG]
    "Path"="c:windowsMsAppsGrphfltJPEGIM32.FLT"

    You will definitely find the latter after you run the 4 *.reg files I referred to above. Either way, it is best to put the filters in BOTH folders -- just like the image below. The actual registry accessing procedure that MS Paint used to create the JPG filter is this:

    OpenKey HKLMSOFTWAREMicrosoftShared ToolsGraphics FiltersExportJPEG
    QueryValueEx HKLMSOFTWAREMicrosoftShared ToolsGraphics FiltersExportJPEGName
    QueryValueEx HKLMSOFTWAREMicrosoftShared ToolsGraphics FiltersExportJPEGExtensions
    OpenKey HKLMSOFTWAREMicrosoftShared ToolsGraphics FiltersExportJPEGImage API

    So obviously having those keys and values exactly correct is going to be paramount in aiding MS Paint to create the Jpg filter option.

    Re: Cookie: anyuser (IE6.0.2600)

    Now let's get to the cookie name issue. My guess was essentially correct. The cookie name comes out of the value in:

    [HKLMNetworkLogon]
    "username"=

    OR a value derived FROM this value. See my image below -- which should make this very clear. ;-]

    The other value that COULD be read to obtain the cookie name is this:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrentControlSetControl]
    "Current User"=

    This value should be the same as the "username" above.
    __________________________________________________ ________

    So what is going on with your system?? Well, for some reason you are not correctly logged on to WinME. Somehow in the re-installation process your 'logon' got messed up. You are not logged in as yourself, but instead your a logged in as a "defalut user". Let's call it "anyuser", shall we? ;-]

    This explains to me why you don't have these keys in your registry:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftProtected Storage System Provider["Lonnie"]

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentV ersionProfileList["Lonnie"]

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrentControlSetControl
    CurrentUser=["Lonnie"]

    If you were logged in correctly, all of those SHOULD exist. The CurrentControlSet will hold "Lonnie's" personalized registry values that are used in HKEY_CURRENT_USER. If there is no "Lonnie" control set to use, then the "default" is being used as the Current User -- not "Lonnie".

    Also, the PSSP (Protected Storage System Provider) and ProfileList keys are also used to store your personal choices -- such as Autocomplete Passwords, etc. If there is no "Lonnie" listed, then you don't have anywhere to store your data. [Note: you may not have a ProfileList key unless you added some special settings, but the PSSP key is a necessary key.]

    OK, now on to what you need to do. We need to get *you* logged into WinME. I can easily change who I am logged in by simply modifying the HKLMNetworkLogon username value. When I do this and then restart Windows, I am hit with a Logon screen. The User Name listed is now the new value. For the image below, you can guess that my User Name was "HKLM Network Logon UserName". I chose to not enter a password -- so I do not have to keep logging in.

    OK, that works fine for me -- but do not think it will work for you. For some reason I suspect your computer is set up to skip the Logon procedure. I *will* need to find you a way to force a logon on reboot... Give me some time -- my real job needs me! :-]

    Re: Cookie: anyuser (IE6.0.2600)

    Did the connection wizard thing...didn't change a thing at all. Thanks anyway..will just leave it as is...not that important to me anyway...just wondered why it didn't show my name when it used to before.
    BTW...everything I did during the clean re-install - is exactly the same way I have always done.
    As to the HKEY (etc)...
    1. Local Machine...CurrentControlSetControl='current user' doesn't even show up
    2. " PSSP=lists "Default" "LocalMachine" and default
    3. " CVersionProfileList=not even that is listed..the 'profile list', I mean
    4." SystemCurControlSetControlCurrentUser= ...the ControlCurrentUser isn't listed

    Re: Cookie: anyuser (IE6.0.2600)

    Did everything as required...no joy...still lists only .bmp in the dropdown box.
    Giving up on this MSPaint thing...I don't use it often anyway...maybe 6x in 2 years????
    Thanks anyway for all the help and time.
