'un-concanenate' to import (2000)

I have a designed a new database. I have records from an old DOS program to import. I get them into Excel and can bring in that spreadsheet with no problem. My problem is the name is LAST, FIRST - and I have 2 fields in the database, one for last name and one for first name.
Is there an easy way to look for that comma, and put everything before the comma into the Last Name field, everything after the comma into the First Name field...
I've searched for an answer or prior post, but can't seem to come up with anything useful.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Use an update query and use for the last name :

Left(fname,InStr(fname,",")-1)

and for the first name :

Trim(Mid(fname,InStr(fname,",")+1))

in the Update to line.
Replace fname with the name of the field containing the full name.
If this field name include space you have to put square brackets around it.

Or, since you already have the data in a column in Excel, select that column, then choose Data -> Text to Columns... and follow the wizard.

thank you very much as well.
I've never tried anything like you suggest - I'll try this just to see how it works...
