    Desktop Highlighted icons

Sometimes when I double click on a desktop Icon, e.g. Publishers or Word , it will highlight 2 programmes. If you click to remove the highlighting it highlights even more, e.g. 6 programmes simultaneously highlighted. The only way I have been able to fix it, is to shut down the computer and later restart. - Any ideas about what is causing this, and what do I do to fix it? - It only happens occasionally.

Sounds like either a flaky mouse, or more likely the mouse driver. If you have a Logitech mouse, install the latest Mouseware. If not, remove the mouse from the system applet in Control Panel, and reboot so that Windows will find it again, and reinstall the driver.

Another possible cause of this symptom is a sticky shift key on your keyboard, although that would also have other effects that would help you diagnose it...
