    Convert cobol????? (VB/VBA)

Don't really know the best place to post this question. I am looking to see if there is a way to convert mainframe code, i.e. cobol into some other language such as VB? Other than just redoing the code by hand is there anything out there in the great big programming world that will make this an easier conversion...perhaps a translator of some sort? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Only the obvious: Google. Don't forget Google Groups too.

    Re: Convert cobol????? (VB/VBA)

About ten years ago for BELL telephone I wrote a FORTRAN-to-COBOL, or COBOL-to-FORTRAN converter I forget which. Worked fine. Five years ago using the same technique I embarked on a Lotus-or-Excel to common-language with a view to a future common-language to Lotus/Excel,

Written in Stage2, Poole & Waite's transportable macro language.

I'd be happy to give you a set of the macros I wrote. Stage2 is available for the PC, either d/l a copy or I'll send you that as well.

Leave me an email if you want the stuff; I suspect that PKZipped it will be over the board's 100K limit.

Since COBOL relies so heavily on the Decimal data type, I'd suggest looking into converting it to one of the VS.NET languages,.
VB .NET does have a real Decimal data type.

You should ask in the comp.lang.cobol newsgroup.
