    DB corruption/Jetcomp.exe error (Access 97 SR2)

I have a split database on Win98 machines and a Novell network. Apparently when one particular user opens the front end and exits the backend gets corrupted. No one at any other machine is able to access the backend from their front end.

This happened yesterday and again this morning. When I opened the backend from within Access it asked me if I would like to repair, which I did and it fixed the problem. After doing that today, I tested the suspicious machine and it was corrupted again. Suspicions confirmed.(?) Now however, when I try opening the backend from within Access I get the following error message "Unrecognized Database Format...". When I try to use Jetcomp.exe I also get a message that says "Can't compact this version of database."

I'm out of ideas short of restoring a backup or recreating the backend by importing to a new db.

Anyone else ever have this problem?

    Thanks,

    Kevin

Unfortunately, lots of people run into this kind of problem occasionally with Access 97. Given that neither repair option works, your best (maybe only) option is to try to import all of the objects into a new, empty database. You will probably get an error somewhere in the import, and it will refuse to bring in one object, that being the one that is corrupt. On the other hand you may just want to go to a backup and restore it - a good reason for making frequent backups with Access back-ends. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the response. It looks like my db is history, I can't import anything. <img src=/S/disappointed.gif border=0 alt=disappointed width=15 height=15>
