    Constantly resetting the Computer

Please help. When I do a shutdown and restart, my computer makes 1 soft blip after testing RAM and 2 soft blips together and then it hangs on the WIN Me screen. I just installed a new video card which is working fine. But to restart, I need to press the reset button 2 times which takes me to the F8 screen asking me if I won't safe mode normal or the line by line etc... I choose normal mode and everything's fine. Any way around the discombobulated startup??? Thanks

    Re: Constantly resetting the Computer

Never had anything like this myself, but I suggest reseating the RAM. If it continues, remove all cards, memory, IDE cables and reseat them, paying close attention to the graphics card which I'm presuming is AGP? Make sure the power cord is removed from the back of the system, just to be sure there's no juice running through when you remove something.

Use of an anti-static wrist strap is a good idea too.

Another idea would be to reset your BIOS to the default settings (without any power management functions)
    Get back to us if this persists. We love a challenge. <img src=/S/headthrob.gif border=0 alt=headthrob width=15 height=15>

Further to Fish's remarks: when you work on the inside of the computer, do NOT unplug the power cord from the power supply. If you do, your system's case is no longer grounded. The wrist strap will keep you from toasting anything when you touch it so long as you clip it to the case.

The only time I unplug the power from the wall socket is when I need to connect/disconnect power cables on drives or to the mainboard.

OK. I've re-seatted all boards and RAM and the problem remains. I guess it's not hurting anything BUT it's annoying!!!
Any more suggestions, comments, observations, conclusions?
    Thanks

You could try reinstalling the old video card and see if the problem is still there. If not, then perhaps the new card is defective or there is some sort of conflict with it and another system device or a corrupt driver.
