    square root (2000)

    how can one make a square root sign in word 2000? my daughter is going to college via internet, and taking algebra. it's hard enuf to add and subtract, but she' s having difficulty posting her square roots. thanks (oh right now she does the check mark (alt+251) and a draw line.

    For simple formulas, try Insert/Symbol... Select the first item from the Font dropdown list (standard text) and select Mathematical Operators from the Subset dropdown list. There is a square root symbol among the characters in the grid. Alternatively, the Symbol font also has a square root symbol.

    For fancy formulas, try Insert/Object..., select Microsoft Equation Editor and click OK. The Equations toolbar has a section for fractions and roots.
