Table printing problem in Word 2002 (Office XP)

I have created a number of simple tables for a scientific document. For reasons unknown, the gridlines between cells refuse to print, and only the border appears on the printed document. The contents of the table are correct and the text alignment is as intended. As I have never experienced this problem before, am quite mystified.
    Many thanks for any solutions

Are the lines you see on the screen just the pale grey "gridlines" that you get from Table > Show Gridlines?

Have you used Format > Borders and Shading > Apply to Table to apply the borders you want to your table?

Your rapid response is greatly appreciated.
I had applied a border, and de- selected the gridlines by accident. This was the first time I had applied a border, and I missed the obvious.Thank you!
