    MS KB links

A word of warning to anyone posting links to Microsoft Knowledge Base Articles:
I copied one from my IE address bar today to find it didn't work, the reason being the <!t>[ and ]<!/t> tags in the following example. The ]<!/t> is taken as part of our url link tags.

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;[LN];Q129605

I got round it by copying the full address of another article, and simply changed the number at the end. The original link was from another KB article - it seems to be the way the hyperlink has been encoded on the page.

I had the same problem and resolve it by replacing [LN] by [EN] in the address and it was working.
BTW the whole design of the new KB is really bad.

I didn't realise what you were all fussing about for a while, because I always search the knowledge base from http://search.microsoft.com/advanced_searc...p?qu=&siteid=us

The new search engine at http://support.microsoft.com is horrible.

<P ID="edit" class=small>Edited by Leif on 12-Aug-02 17:54.</P>It was not the "LN" that was causing the problem, but the ]<!/t> tag after it, causing the url to become:

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;[LN

when placed within the <!t><!/t> </big>text <!t><!/t> tags.

    Re: MS KB links

I've discovered that you can take the following URL code:

    http://support.microsoft.com/default...;EN-US;qXXXXXX

If you replace the X's with the article number, it works OK. <img src=/S/sigh.gif border=0 alt=sigh width=15 height=15> <img src=/S/hairout.gif border=0 alt=hairout width=31 height=23> Hasn't anyone told Microsoft that consistency is what works best? They keep changing their code and making life hard!!

    Re: MS KB links

And lots of pages have disappeared recently. The new design is terrible. I'm glad to hear links to new articles can be modified so they work again.

I use FreeAnswers to search the MSKB, much easier and cleaner and I find stuff without having to jump through flaming hoops.

But they don't seem to have an advanced search for version of software. I didn't see Office in their listing either. Is there another page with more options?
