    Booklet printing problem (2002 sp=1)

<img src=/S/argue.gif border=0 alt=argue width=50 height=25> I have a 40 page document that I am trying to print in booklet form (landscape fold). I used mail merge to make the document and has a jpeg photo in each section. The document when printed, the text and pictures are fine including proper orientation and proper page number per text and pictures.
The problem is the the page numbers don't print in the correct sequence to make a booklet. I have gone through and set everything up according to the help file. I have tried both auto duplex and manual duplex printing. Checking and un-ckecking the boxes for page numbering for front and back. Still know luck.
    Please help.
PS I have tried on both HP Photosmart printer with the latest driver and an HP 970 Cse with the latest driver. Exact same results.

    Hi John:
I came across the following tip for printing booklets & I pass it along to you. I should mention that I have not tried it. I wish I could remember the source (it could be Woody) <img src=/S/blush.gif border=0 alt=blush width=15 height=15>

    Booklets
This method assumes that your printer driver supports printing odd and even pages. The following instructions are for U.S. letter with approximations for European A4 in parentheses.

Set up your document with Mirror Margins (Margins tab of Page Setup). When you do this, the margin measurements for Left and Right change to Inside and Outside. Make the Inside margin 5

Are you using the booklet imposition function that is new to Word 2002? I haven't used it but have played with it and it did do the imposition correctly on a test file. It also completely rejigs the page layout which makes it less than optimal.

There was some discussion of that in this thread

Another possibility is WOPR 2x4 I haven't used that either but I would expect it would do the job admirably seeing as its got papa Woody's blessing.

My 'Thinking outside of the box' solution would be: - I have noticed that Adobe Indesign does impositions by printing each page out as Acrobat and then re-placing each page into the final page layout in the correct size and page order. If you turned the Word doc into Acrobat you might be able to highjack the Indesign function to do this for you (or write your own).

Depending on how precise page positioning is, you may need to use higher powered software such as Indesign as you can allow for gutter creep. This will become a factor with a booklet of 10 sheets of paper which is pretty thick for a quick and dirty booklet stapled by hand.
