Slow searching? (home)

Since I got XP; my search seems much slower than in the 98 era... It seems as if also the search also goes inside my ZIPs (I have display ZIP as folders OFF).

I don't want to search in ZIP's by cannot find an option to switch this off.

If my (much!) slower search indeed caused by the "search inside ZIP"? If yes; how do I disabled that and if no, what causes this and how can I speed things up?

Appreciate any tips/hints!

Did you upgrade to XP from 98? What search tools are you using, do you mean online searching the web or offline location of files on the hard drive?

I apologize; took a bit too many shortcuts:

* I purchased a new PC with Win-XP (so no upgrade stuff)
* I'm referring to the standard WinXP file-seach tool (right from the start-menu)
* I mean LOCAL (offline) searches for files on my hard-drive

Okay got it now. One of the new notebooks I've been using with XP Home loaded I have found more frustrating than slow relating to searching the hard drive. I have put this down to it being different to the search tools Im used to on 98 and ME, so yes I have been annoyed with the search. BUT it could well be me in that I am usually able to quickly locate exactly what I want on my various work and home machines. That being said, it will be interesting to hear back from others who are more familiar with their XP. Sometimes its easy to forget how many zillion functions computers perform without problems, its only when they play us we notice.

Are you sure that you're not telling the search tool to look for files that contain the text instead of the file name alone? It's an easy one to do.....The middle box is the "text containing" field, and Windows will search inside of ALL files in that case.

Nope... I'm using the top box and (thus) look for file-name (fragments)...
