Need to download complete IE installation (Win 95)

    Hi,

I have an old computer that is not connected to the internet on which I want to install certain software that requires IE 4.01 SP2 or newer. As you know, MS provides a small setup file which contacts the server and completes the download of the the required components. However, as this computer is not connected to the internet, that won't work. Can anyone provide a URL from which I can download a complete IE package? As I will not be using this for browsing, features (and current technology) are immaterial; I just need the core libraries that other software depends on.

    Thanks

    Hi
A better source might be an old magazine CD with IE4 on it.

The earliest things that might work from the MS site are version 5 or higher:

Internet Explorer Administration Kit (IEAK) 5.01

Internet Explorer Administration Kit 5.5 AVS

    Internet Explorer Administration Kit 6

Generally speaking, the "IEAK" is targeted toward corporate and ISP deployments, and lets you generate a kind of customized install package for the above versions of IE. I played with the 5.01 version a long time ago, but it was more in relation to customizing security policies than installing from scratch.

Probably a lot more work than finding an old CD.

An old magazine with a CD seems like a good idea, but I'm not sure where I'd find that either. Another thing you made me think of is an old software CD that included IE, but a quick glance through the ones I have laying around seem to have IE 3 or Netscape 3 on them.

These administration kits seem the way to go. , even if they are a lot of work. I don't seem to have an alternative.

It is a long time since I did this, but I seem to remember that if you run the IE6 setup.exe then one of the options offered by the wizard is to download all the files and keep local copies for installation on further systems. The only drawback is that it only downloads the options you select - so you must specify exactly the same options when you do the install on the offline system.

Re: Need to download complete IE installation (Win 95)

Someone sent me a couple of non-MS links which may have old version downloads. If this fails I can reboot this machine into windows, upgrade the IE 5.5 to IE 6 and possibly keep the install file. Only my Linux machines are connected to the Internet at this point. This machine has a windows partition that I can boot though and hopefully get a file that I can use on the old windows machine. Thanks for this pointer.

Can you publish those non-MS links or send them to me in a PM if you were able to get older versions of I.E from them? I have a need to get a hold of I.E. 5.01 or 5.5 to install on an old Win 95 machine which is not on line.

    Thanks.

    Try http://ie5.freeservers.com/

Although it initially offers the setup file, it may just offer the complete download for later installation as an option (being as it is an earlier version of IE).

    Re: 'Full' IE download/install problems

ie5.freeservers.com

contains a link that didn't work for me. However, the Internet Explorer home page (sort of) works. Over on the right side are the links to IE6SP1 and IE5.5SP2. You can get to IE5.01 via the Downloads menu on the left. The IEAK page is accessible from the Related Technologies menu on the left.

Each of these IE links downloads a loader/installer program that is 450-500K (e.g., ie6setup.exe). If you select the radio button for

Install Minimal, or customize...

    and click on

Advanced...

it supposedly will let you download the "Full" version for later installation (I think it's really the "typical" version--the ie6sp1 download was 25.9MB). The problem is, how do I install it? The setup program still wants to go to the internet, even if I choose Minimal installation. I had the same problem with all three versions (5.01, 5.5 and 6) on Win98SE.

I tried to run IEAK6, but it said I needed IE6 first. Catch-22!

Any suggestions? I also need IE only for system libraries used by other programs.
