    Administrative alert? (XP Home)

I received the following "alert?" twice recently just before auto restarted.

    The following error occured:

    PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

This was sent just before the system was auto restarted,(which rebooted OK) As I said, this only happened twice in one night and has not repeated itself
    since.
I was just wondering what this was and what may have caused it?
    Any ideas?

    Re: Administrative alert? (XP Home)

Best bet is a faulty device driver.

PAGE_FAULT is the internal operation used to get data from the hard disk into memory when a program tries to access it. NONPAGED_AREA is a part of the Operating System that has been designed to be permanently memory resident, so that it won't need any page faults.

The message PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA means that a piece of system code, that should have had everything it needed in memory, tried to reference something that wasn't in memory.

So, Stuart, do you think it was just a two time "fluke" happening, since it hasn't happened again or should I be looking out for something else?
There doesn't appear to be any other problems anywhere else, so I guess I'll just assume the former.
    Thanks, Bob

My best guess is that it was a particular combination of events and timing within a device driver, likely to happen again eventually, keep an eye out for updated drivers.
