View items on the clipboard toolbar

Using the clipboard toolbar in Word 2000, if there are 4 Word items in the toolbar, how do I know what is in each?
Word's Help file says that I should rest the mouse over the item's icon, but all I get is a yellow tool tip "Multipaste options allow users to decide..." and I can't even finish reading it as it cuts off!

    Thanks for your help,

    Joe

Re: View items on the clipboard toolbar

It works for me on Word 2000. I typed Fred, Mary, Joan and then copied Fred (Select Ctrl-C) and then copied Mary. There were two eminently undistinguishable Ws on the clipboard. I put the mouse over the first one and the tooltip said Fred, on the second one it said Mary.

Wow! I had always thought the tool was pretty crummy but this puts a diferent light on it.

Now, What about your problem. Did all your clips start off Multipaste Options ...

    I didn't think so.
I am not sure where your tool tip is coming from. I have Screen tips turned on in Options.

Perhaps someone else knows where the switch is.

Re: View items on the clipboard toolbar

It's funny. For some reason it started working when I restarted my machine. Could it just be a quirk in Office?

I agree, this feature will come in handy. There are also a lot of freeware/shareware clipboard managers/expanders at http://ausis.gf.vu.lt/nonags/textu32.html which I may try.

In any case, thank you for your help.

    Hi Joe:

I've noticed quirky behavior in all programs sometimes. It's like something gets corrupted or doesn't load or shuts down. A reboot solves many problems.
