'New Record' event? (Office 2000 Sr1a)

Is there such a thing as a "New Record" event?
That is, can a VBA subroutine or function be triggered when a new record is added to a particular table in a database?
I know that you can do this when the record is added from a form by attaching code to the control where the data is being added
but I would prefer something that would detect a new record immediately it is added to a table by whatever means.
    Any thoughts please?

Either use SQL Server or resign yourself to using a form. There are NO table events in Access.

Would it be enough to install MSDE? ( in the absence of SQL server)

MSDE *is* SQL Server but without all the management tools and tweaked ... er, "optimized" ... for 5 users. However, then you'll have to build triggers in SQL Server, and I have no idea how to do that with MSDE. With SQL Server, I do it using the Enterpirse Manager and you don't have that with MSDE. Maybe someone else can tell you how to get there.
