You don't specify under what circumstances you get the error message. The MS Knowledge Base has some items that may be relevant:
ACC: OLE Object Error When Setting the RowSourceType Property and
ACC: OLE Error After You Update a Link to an Object on Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 2000.
See if they are relevant to your problem. If not, post back with some more information on the situation in which you get the error message.

    Hi Hans

I tried to do as you say but under tools I could not find reference. So I am not sure what you mean.

However I have since re-installed everything and it seems to be working. But I am grateful for your help.

    Thanks as ever

Re: Ole Server is no registered (Office 97 SR2)

Usually, the error message indicates that Access tries to communicate with another application (OLE server).

Does the error occur in one specific database?
If so, try the following steps:

Open any module (if you don't have one, create a new one), and select Tools/References...
By default, the following references are checked for Access 97:

Visual Basic For Applications

Microsoft Access 8.0 Object Library

Microsoft DAO 3.51 Object Library
Are any other references checked? If so, which? Is there a references starting with MISSING?

Do you have any non-standard controls on a form or report, i.e., controls that are not part of the default control set coming with Access 97? If so, which?

Create a new empty database and import all database objects from the problem database. Does the new database work correctly?
If the error occurs in *ALL* your Access databases:

Have you recently installed, or tried to install, Office 2000 or XP on the same computer?

Same question for Visual Basic 6 or Visual Studio?
Post your findings; perhaps somebody will be able to shed light on this.

You have to be in the VB editor in order to get the VBA tools menu. Open any module and then look at Tools.

    Hi Charlotte

Thanks very much I looked where you said, and I was surprised how much stuff is in there. But to get back to my original question would ticking the box at this location have registered the ole server. If not I could not solve my origional problem. Which is now resolved with a re-install.

Thank you very much for your response.

No. Setting a reference merely establishes a connection to the library.

Re: Ole Server is no registered (Office 97 SR2)

It depends on the circumstances that generated the message. If you're running two versions of Office apps and using automation in your application, your code may be trying to automate the wrong version of the server application, depending on which was installed last.
