    Record(s) can't be read (Word 97 SR2)

I am receiving the error Record(s) can't be read; no read permission on... At this point it will not let me make any revisions to my own database. I have all the necessary network permissions, and I created the database. At this point I have no idea what to look for next. Thanks

SORRY FOR THE RE LINE - SHOULD HAVE READ ACCESS 97 SR 2.

At what level do you get the message ?
In a table, query, report or code ?
Do you use User Security ?
Have you try to compact and repair ?

In addition to Francois's questions, is the database on your local PC or on a network drive? Have you opened task manager to be sure you don't have a hidden session of Access holding the lock file open? Do you see an LDB file in the folder with the database even though the database is closed?

Answers to your questions: I get this message when I try to open the database, I have not used any kind of user security and when I was able to run repair, however, when I try to run compact, I get the same message.

    Charlotte,

The database is on the Network, and I did check for LDB files and there are none.

    Thanks for your help

    Re: Record(s) can't be read (Access 97 SR2)

Do you have the JetComp utility? It is a standalone program that can compact and repair Access databases; sometimes it can resolve problems that the built-in commands can't handle. JetComp for Access 97 is part of Microsoft Jet 3.5 Service Pack 3; you can download it from ACC97: Updated Version of Microsoft Jet 3.5 Available for Download. Installing this service pack will also update the built-in Compact command to include Repair.

If this doesn't help: create a new empty database. Try to import all database objects from the corrupt database. Set the startup options for the new database in Tools/Startup... (if you use startup options). If the new database works OK, you can use this instead of the corrupt one (be sure to test thorougly!)

Make sure the permissions on the network drive are set properly. If this is multiuser, an LDB file gets created on both your local PC if you have a front-end there and on the network drive where the backend lives.
