    Assigning Drive Letters

I am installing a second drive for Backup.

Drive 1 is partitioned into C:Boot, Data, and E:Programs..

I want to install drive 2 and have its drive letter = F: so I don't have to reassign all the data files(D to E:

Is there a way to reassign drive letters under win 98 se?

    Not that I can remember.

But, if you set the NEW drive to be "Extended" (I think), it will become the f drive. This must be done at time of the install of the hard drive.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Further to Dave's comments - the only drive letters you will have control over are CD-ROM devices, in their respective properties pages. Before you install the hard drive, make sure that your CD-ROM devices are assigned a letter further down the alphabet or simply don't have a letter assigned and F: should be the next logical hard drive.

Yes, do not put a Primary partition on the added drive.

    Re: Assigning Drive Letters

    DaveA,
I did this and it worked. I should have posted way earlier. First hard drive is now C: D: E: and second drive if F:.
    That's the way,
    uh - huh uh- huh
    I like it!
    Thanks
