Turn off file name autocomplete (Word XP (2002))

Is there any way to turn off the file name autocomplete in the File -> open dialog box? I don't want it to finish the name when I start typing a file name, only for it to go to all the files that start with what I have typed...

No. But here's a trick that works:

Type a space as the first character of the filename. Since no file begins with a space, the dialog file display won't jump. After you type the name and press [Enter], Word ignores the leading space and opens the file you named.
