This is NOT embarssing to Charlotte, but it may save embarassment to some of us in the future.

Replying to a post, then editing the reply can result in TWO emails notifications being sent to the originating poster.

I had a weird sense of deja-lu with two consecutive emails in Eudora tonight. Here are snipped portions of each email:

    (1)

In an Access project, at least, the only way you can use routines with the same name in different modules is if no more than one of them is declared public. I haven't tried it in other Office apps, but it works the same way in VB.

Just imagine if she'd posted "you silly old coot" (which I feel she wouldn't) and then changed her mind.

Gosh, Chris, I'm so glad you wanted to save me from embarassment! Was there any other point to this post?

    Re: Viewing deleted posts

Actually, I'm constantly noticing little blips in my posts (in spite of Preview) immediately after I post them, and I hastily hit Edit This Post and go in and make a change. And sometimes multiply process 2X - OK I can't help myself...

Does this mean I'm inadvertently bombarding someone's mailbox with multiple, barely discernably different posts? Egads....

    Re: Viewing deleted posts

I have been seeing a similar problem. I will try to view a post from an e-mail link and it won't be there. Check my e-mail, there is another copy of the e-mail, this works. The second link is typically the old post# + 1.

I will watch for this and get back to you with specific post#'s when/if I see it again.

Did some testing in Test Area. Could not cause a duplicate message.

One theory, the member involved may be preparing posts off line and instead of changing the post in the forum is deleting his original post and creating a new reply by cut and pasting from their off-line (eg. Notepad) copy.

    Re: Viewing deleted posts

    That seems the likeliest explanation.

Yes there was a point. You post a reply. You hang up the phone. You reflect, re-dial and edit the post and re-post it.

Too late! Your original post is already on its way.

    Be Aware!

There was nothing embarssing in YOUR correction, that's why i used it as an example.

Sure. I have "email notification" set on my account. Why not make several essays/posts to this response. I'll collect them and email the set back to you.

So, let's all ask Charlotte exactly what she did to delete that last sentence.

    Re: Viewing deleted posts

Let me give you a couple of other scenarios.

If you hit the Post button and then immediately hit Stop, the post will appear to terminate and leave you at the new post screen. If you open a new window and check to see if the post completed it won't be there (dial-up connection, remember), so you edit the original and post it. Now, suddenly, you have two posts, the original and the edited versions.

Another way to do this is to twitch and double-click Post. That will inadvertently post the same message twice. I personally delete one when I accidentally do this.

Considering the volume of emails I get from the Lounge, a few deleted ones hardly seem worth complaining about; but maybe there should be a slight delay before posts get emailed in order to allow for second thoughts.

    Re: Viewing deleted posts

I'd like to see some of these "same message, posted twice" - you're not supposed to be able to do that.
As for "opening a new window" - you have been warned and deserve to suffer.
