    Re: Word 2000 Corrupts (Word 2000 SR2)

I've seen these boxes and other symbols in documents on PCs with font problems. What's the default Word font on these PCs? Try changing it to a "well known" True Type font like Times New Roman or Arial.

Something else that comes to mind:

Rename or delete the Normal.dot file for these users. Search all local disks and network mapped drives for Normal.dot. Word may not be using the one you think it's using.

Also, if the corruption persists, you may have to remove the Settings Reg key. See here for info on how (and why) to do that.

Take a look in the Open dialog box. Is it set for "Recover text from any file" rather than Word doc?

Font is set for Times New Roman. I haven't specifically renamed or deleted just the Normal.dot file; but I have reformatted the hard drive and thus reloaded all software. Will take a look at the Settings Reg key.

    Re: Word 2000 Corrupts (Word 2000 SR2)

I would start Word on their machines from the command line--Start/Run & type
    winword.exe /a

If this cures the problem, then it's likely a corrupt normal.dot OR some add-in or library that's conflicting. I would close Word & rename normal.dot next (if the winword.exe /a works). Restart Word & it creates a new one & see if that solves the problem. If not, then look in ALL the startup folders & take everything out to see if that helps. If so, put them in one at a time to isolate the culprit.

    Hope this helps.
