    PWS

I'm very new to Web design, but have gathered that I need PWS to use InterDev so that I don't need access to a Web server. I know that the Windows 2000 CD's contain PWS, however, we all load our copies at my company from a server that does not provide all functionality (gives the support people less to do...). PWS is one of the missing components.

I've been searching the Internet and learned that it's free and downloadable, but all I can find is one for NT 4.0. Does anyone know if that version of PWS will work with my Windows 2000?

    Thanks,

    Randy

    Hi Randy,

Since you have WIndows 2000, you don't need PWS. Windows 2000 has something even better built in - Internet Information Server (IIS), the big brother to PWS.

I believe this is an option on the install, so you will want to confirm that you actually have it installed. Since I've upgraded to WinXP Pro I can no longer remember exactly where to tell you to look in Win 2000. I think you'll want to check under the Administrative Tools and look for Internet Information Services. That's all there is to it.

If my information is too vague, I'm sure other loungers will know the answer right off the top of their heads...

    Hope this helps!

Mark hit it on the head....just to confirm and expand on his post, you can find it in Add/Remove Programs when you click on the Add/Remove Windows Components button in that dialog. You'll see an entry as in the attached screen shot. Tick the box, and click OK...if you want to keep optional components out, such as FTP or SMTP mail, you can click on Details first.
