Gif optimizer?

Has anybody got any suggestions for the best Gif Optimizer? We desperately need to optimize our Smilie collection.

OK...I remembered seeing something about gif opt before - in my travels - the one from Chemware looks familiar.
Good luck !

All the Mac people seem to use that. I didn't even know it was available for Windows.

Eileen,

I have been using ULead SmartSaver Pro for all my image optimization needs. It does animated graphics and tons more along with more than I'll ever need.

I'm using CoffeeCup right now. Just out of curiosity, see what yours can do with barf.gif - CoffeeCup got it down from 9,321 bytes to 6,569 bytes. Can it do better than that?

Does yours do batch processing? CoffeeCup unfortunately doesn't.

Re: Gif optimizer?

Eileen,

If I used just the standard Optimization utility with the default settings, it is reduced to 6,642 bytes. Using one of the many options available, "Compress by size" I was quickly able to get it down to 5K without any noticeable effects on quality or animation. And , ULead SmartSaver Pro has "Batch Processing" ,etc., etc., etc., ad infinitum.

Re: Gif optimizer?

About 5, 6, 7 years ago I went to a lecture on "good" web design. The guy insisted that everyone run out and get DeBabelizer for color reduction (this was in the days before even 56K access was common). I visited the web site and choked on the price for the Pro version, $700. There is a light version for $100 that sounds useful enough to me, but it really appears to be overkill for smilies. (No offense intended!)

Equilibrium also has this remarkable image server, MediaRich. The demos are pretty amazing.
