Hi
Not only can you change the colour, but you can also change the icon completely. But you'll need some folder icons to change to! Try #27 on my website for a nice collection.

1. RClick the folder
2. Choose Properties/Change Icon or in some cases Properties/Customize/Change Icon
3. Browse to your choice and click Apply.

Hey MerC, that's a nice collection. Don't know where you got it, but the ones I looked at so far are very nice. He can save himself a little "colorizing" by using the ones already in the Hi Tech folders group. Good tip and thnx from me too.

Re: Folder colors

And Hey, MerC! I discovered something else as a result of downloading that collection. I never realized I WASN'T looking at my icons in all possible colours!. Since I ran that little program, I have a number of icons on my screen that look marvelously better than they used to. What a stumble-on revelation! Thanx again!

Hi, MerC ~

I d/l the #27 collection (thank you!), but each time I try to install I get an error during an uncompressing of a file. Please see SS below. Any idea how I can get around this?

Bruce - most likely a corrupt download that Merc has no control over. The same archive worked fine for me and the other folks that posted back. Try downloading it again and see what happens.

Re: Folder colors

Well, Mark, I figured you were right, so I d/l again...in fact 4 times, and each time the same error with the same window at the same file. On the screenshot above and as were all the others, the Error 3 is a Windows Error code equaling "The system cannot find the path specified". The path is right and the initial folders are present and correct. This is probably not the program but something on my end....care to speculate?

Re: Folder colors

Hi Bruce
Sorry about your decompression problem. Unfortunately, try as I may I cannot reproduce it. This one has me stumped for the moment. I wonder if you are using, like me, the native decomp built into XPP? This shouldn't matter, as I've had this collection far longer than I've had XP. When asked for a choice as to where to store the files, make sure there are no spaces in the name, and put the whole path inside double quotes.

I'm assuming also :

that you've plenty of room on your HD
that the HD is not compressed or anything
that you have a viewer that can read .icl files - try the freeware IconShop from LionTech

None of these should be the source of trouble, but we're straw-clutching here. Mark may well be right : for some reason downloading in your case does something (dunno what) to that particular file....

Hi Al
Glad you liked it. I enjoy messing about with icons : reflects my personality - an uncontrollable urge to be in control. You might also like IconShop (see url in previous message) which lets you mess about even more

MerC ~

I don't think it is the file, but I am not sure. I haven't had other problems and am using WinZip. Your other files were fine. But I keep getting this error (please see above screenshots) and can't see what the prob could be. I was using the default location built in to the installer and tried other locations. I had this same file installed on this machine when I had XPH, but I didn't save it. WWYD??

Try emptying your browser's cache and then one more download. IE downloads items into its cache and then copies them to the selected home.

Re: Folder colors

Hey MerC,
Thanks for the link to IconShop. I've been by your site a few times in the past and have picked up some fine utilities. I'm a collector myself and already had the Folders Icons, but had forgotten about IconShop (already had v1.12, probably from your site or a link to it from there) but never executed it. Great little utility. Had been using a trial version of Microangelo, but that expired. This is an excellent replacement and best of all, It's

Re: Folder colors

Bruce,
I tend to agree with Mark on this. Sounds like a corrupt d/l, or perhaps a problem decompressing the file as MerC alludes to. I downloaded the file myself tonight and had no trouble with it. You could try grabbing it from here PCWorld and see if that one works for you. If not I'd guess that it's a decompression problem on your system. But then what.... ??
