    Upgrading IE (5.00.3314.2101)

I am still using an OLD version of IE (5.00.3314.2101) and after reading about all the patches released lately would like to update. However, I'd like to just obtain IE and not have to worry about installing all the patches. Does the version of IE currently available from MS currently incorporate all the new security updates?

Not exactly. You'd have to have all the planets lined up just right to avoid at least two downloads, and that currently is not the case. If you like IE5 and want to download 5.5, you'll want these:

    (1) Version 5.5 SP2
    (2) August 22, 2002 Cumulative Security Patch

Note that the latter is very new, so there may yet be reports of odd bugs in it.

If you're interested in IE6, go to the IE home page for further guidance.

No bugs as of yet -- and we have tried our best to find some! The new Cumulative patch is required for IE6 as well -- there is just no way around it.

The new patch fixes quite a few holes in total and should not be ignored. This does NOT mean that IE is now "hole-free", but at least it is better!
