A lot of times I am unable to send messages because there Outlook encounters a time out error:

Taks 'e-mail address - Sending' reported error (0x8004210B) : 'The operation timed out waiting for a response from the sending (SMTP) server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your servr administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

I am running Outlook XP under Win XP Pro and IIS. However, if my memory serves me right I had the same problem under Win2000 Pro (and Outlook XP).

When I stop and restart the SMTP server the message(s) are usually sent (i.e. leave my Outbox and are relayed via my SMTP server). However, sometimes only a few messages are sent and I have to stop and restart again to get the rest to go out. It doesn't seem to be size-related. At times a message that previously got stuck will suddenly be sent out without any action on my part. Other times I can get it to go out by opening it from the Outbox and hitting the send-button again.

Does anyone have any ideas?
