    table/template problems (97/2000)

I have inherited a word file from a previous co-worker. It is a table with about 20 columns and about 6 pages worth of rows. It is saved as a template and is supposed to have the option for our sales force to check off which line applies to their current project. The Track Changes tab on the Tools-Options area was set to show up red and underlined whenever a change is made by someone other than the author. This area was also set to show deletions as Strikethrough. I am not familiar with how the template and table functions work, so when I had to make an update I inserted a new line into the table and entered the new info. That's when I realized the red/underlining was set. I erased the new line and closed the file without saving the changes. Then I went back, turned off the tracking option, entered the new line, saved it, closed it, and reopened the file. Then I turned the tracking option back on, since we need it, now everything including the new line is highlighted and is showing all old deletions. These deletions were made long ago and are not meant to be shown. We just want to be able to send out the updated version and if any new changes are made to that, have them shown as either red/underlined or strikethrough (for a deletion). Basically, the table is not working correctly and I'm at a loss of what to do. I've included a sample of the file. If anyone has any suggestions for me I'd appreciate it.

You need to accept all changes (Tools > Track changes).

They'll stay in the document until you accept or reject them.

Whether Word tracks changes, and whether it shows them, while changed in the same dialog, are definitely not the same thing. You want to ALWAYS view the tracked changes in the document and in print, because hiding them will only be fooling yourself and confusing the heck out of the next poor guy to inherit this document. But of course, you've figured that out by now. Whether to track additional changes or not is manipulated separately, and you can "enforce" your setting under Tools*>*Protect*Document... if you are so inclined.
