    Publish web has hyperlinks to local hard drive! (2000)

    I don't often change our website, but recently I uploaded a number of changed pages. Looking at the website at work (oops!) gives a number of "Page cannot be displayed" messages, because the hyperlinks have been changed from
    href="pagename.htm"
    to
    href="file:///C:/My Documents/My Webs/websitename/pagename.htm"

    I had this happen before (a L O N G time ago), and probably corresponded offline with Leif about it, but I can't remember what the solution was (other than to go in and edit the HTML directly then republish).

    Any ideas, folks? Thanks!

    I can't remember either!

    You DID publish using FP rather than FTP the files?

    No (or possibly yes), the only way I can get publish to work (remember the LONG and TEDIOUS saga during December last year?) is to upload using FTP (rather than HTTP) - but within Front Page itself. And even then I got problems the last weekend, and it only worked after about half a dozen goes, having rebooted between attempts!

    Ah, yes.
    Well I would have thought FP should handle the links OK as long as it was handling the publishing <img src=/S/shrug.gif border=0 alt=shrug width=39 height=15>
    What happens if you go Tools > Recalculate Hyperlinks? Does that help?

    Leif

    No, Recalculate Hyperlinks did nothing at all. So I had to edit the HTML of each page.

    Which gives rise to a further question:

    Is it possible in one "pass" to do "search/replace all" for all web pages in a web?

    And similarly, to print all the web pagges (or, preferably a number of selected pages)?

    Oh! That's two questions! <img src=/S/doh.gif border=0 alt=doh width=15 height=15>

    Global search and replace should be available - below is the Edit > Replace window I get in FP2002.
    I believe you have an option to print all linked pages when printing from IE.....

    Re: Publish web has hyperlinks to local hard drive! (2000)

    I think I may have a fundamental misunderstanding of what I should have been doing!

    To edit each web page and remove the "file=C:" thingie, I simply did File/Open and double-clicked on the pagename.htm, then went to the HTML tab to do Search/Replace. If you keep the Search/Replace window on the screen, you can just do File/Open on the next web page, and so on. Then save them all at the end (must find out what the keystroke is for Save All Open Pages - is this ALT+F4?). The Search/replace window in FP2K isn't as good as in FP2K+2, though!

    Now, looking at the Help for Replace (always ignore the most useful information source, eh?!), it seems entirely straightforward, and you can edit the HTML for all pages or those you selected -- but in Folder view, whereas I was always working in Page view. So I could have done all I wanted, for all pages, with one Search/replace command, in a few seconds. Ho-hum! And thanks for the pointers!

    As to Printing selected web pages using IE, I will have to look at this one at the weekend, since I don't have anything to test this on at work!

    My IE5.5 gives me an option to print all linked documents - as below - I'm not sure if there is any way you can do a print of selected pages....

    As for SaveAll - does this help?

    Re: Publish web has hyperlinks to local hard drive! (2000)

    The Best Business Solutions method seems like an extension of the first Microsoft reference - and has the usual problem that if you print it in Portrait you lose the right-hand few characters.

    I rather like the "add Save All" to the File menu (if only because it's shorter, and that's where you'd want the function, IMHO.

    Thanks, Leif - I'll try these at the weekend!
