Password on open error (excel 97)

I have saved a file with a password to be entered when opening, I
did this by using save as and then entering the password details and
overwriting the original file. Now when I open the file I am prompted for
the password which I enter it appears to open the file but I cannot see
    anything.

    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Regards Paul W

Any chance that the workbook is hidden? Try Window/Unhide...

I have checked that and all the options under the Window menu are greyed out.

Strange. If you enter the wrong password, you get a warning. If you open the correct password, the file should open.

Another wild guess: have a look in the Visual Basic Editor (Tools/Macro/Visual Basic Editor... or Alt+F11). Is your file listed in the Project Explorer? If so, is the IsAddin property of ThisWorkbook set to True in the Properties window?

If the window is "veryHidden" it does not show in the menu.
You must view it from VB (Alt-F11)

The file is not listed in the Project Explorer window.

In that case, the file isn't being opened at all. All files open in Excel, whether visible or invisible, are listed in the Project Explorer. Perhaps your spreadsheet has become corrupted during the Save As, but then you'd expect an error message or worse. I'm very sorry, but I'm out of ideas now. Perhaps somebody else has a brilliant idea...

Have you tried opening it with the macros disabled?

    Hi,
Can you open it in Internet Explorer or do you have similar problems there? Is it possible to post the workbook here or is it confidential?
    Regards,

Re: Password on open error (excel 97)

I have tried to open the file with the shift key held down, with no success.
I have also tried to open it with Internet Explorer and still no success, I just get a blank excel window but other files open OK in IE.

    Regards Paul W
