Disable Showing WinZip Archive Contents in Exporer (XP 5.1 & WinZip 8.1)

Anyone know how to disable the new XP Explorer feature of automatically displaying the contents of WinZip archives when one clicks on them in the explorer folders pane?

Al, Here's a quote from the msnews.public.windowsxp.general newsgroup per Kelly Theriot MS-MVP:

"To disable ZIP files being shown as folders: Start/Run and type in:
    regsvr32 /u zipfldr.dll

You should receive a dialog that says "DllUnregisterServer in zipfldr.dll
    succeeded."

Joe, Thanks. To complete the circle - to re-enable one must re-install WinZip?

You shouldn't have to. All you should have to do is:

    regsvr32 zipfldr.dll

See my earlier post under "Pop-Up Messages (Professional)" - North of here about 20 threads - about XP Anti-Spy.

The last option lets you "Disable Zip Functionality", which puts WinZip back in control. Easy and it works.

No, I'm not a shill for Anti-Spy. It's just a nice little utility.

Thanks. Looks interesting - I give it a try. For reference, here's the link to BobDog's post and the link to the Anti-Spy utility. It appears to be a very thorough little piece of code.

Note: If I'm not supposed to place product links like this in the forum, someone please slap my hand. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

Al, you're fine - the only things that are prohibited should be obvious to decent people anyway....such as Warez and other illegal stuff. <!rule=13>Rule 13<!/rule> and <!rule=18>Rule 18<!/rule> touch on this in detail if you're curious.
