Autofile at 2 levels (excel 2002)

I have a category heading merged over category1, category2 and category 3 columns. I want to be able to have a dropdown list so the user can filter by the elements under category1, 2 or 3. In addition i want them to be able to have a drop down list on the Category headings that is merged over the 3 columns. I can't figure out how to do both levels at the same time. Thanks for the help.

I don't think I understand.
Could you possibly describe your layout again, but using cell references? Or upload the file?

Thank you. Here is a file. I would like to filter the Red/Blue/Green in B,C,D1 cells. I have an autofilter on B2 red, c2 blue, and d2 green but i'd like another drop down on the merged cells B11 to show the categories Red, Blue or Green. That way I can see filter out all the rows that don't have a green or blue blue entry. Thank you for the help.

I dont think that there is anyway to do this directly but you could add another column to your data and then use the formula

=IF(OR(ISBLANK(C3), ISBLANK(D3)),0,1)

This will let you use this column to filter for rows with data in both C and D
