    Virtual PC Program

I am testing a program from Connectix called Virtual PC. It will allow you to run other operating systems from within your native OS.
For example: Running DOS programs inside Win2K; running NT inside Win2K; running Win98 inside Win2k; etc.
The reason I am testing this (program provided free by Connectix) is that our field technicians have some legacy (read OLD DOS) programs that will NOT run under Win2K (company-wide OS). I am still in the testing stages but I would like to hear from anyone that has also tried this program.
    Thanks, TimC

    Re: Virtual PC Program

Tim - I have used Virtual PC in a Mac <-- Windows environment. I have been very pleased with the results. While it is not a perfect solution for running PC (various flavours of Windows) applications on the Mac I have found the company to be very professional. Minor fixes are always free, upgrades where needed at a discount of retail. All in all a great group to work with. I trust your Windows <-- DOS experience will be just as good.

Sorry I can't comment on this version of their product, but I can comment on the company! <img src=/S/thumbup.gif border=0 alt=thumbup width=15 height=15>

    Re: Virtual PC Program

VirtualPC is an excellent tool, but I must confess that I gave it up in favor of VMWare. If that's an option for you, they have a free trial, and it's very robust - although VirtualPC is pretty solid too.

    Re: Virtual PC Program

It has been awhile but we are still testing the Virtual PC program. I have it installed on three machines now.
All three have windows 98 running inside Win2K. One machine has WinNT & Win98.
I have the same problem with all of them right now.....trying to get them to talk to the modem directly. On two machines,
the modem seems to call out and connect (one machine won't even talk to the modem). The problem is that after connecting to the
modem, there is no dialog with the connecting machine (via modem). We are still working on things and the support people from
Connectix are helping out but they are not responsible for our "legacy" programs.
I am hoping that soon we will have good news to report.
