    In agony

Lost all calendar items and Contacts - over 800 invaluable entries for law practise - inbox intact.
Outlook 2000; Microsoft Exchange; Windows 98.
Presumably everything stored in identifiable Exchange.ost file.
How can I retrieve contacts from this?
    Since it's not a .pst file I can't import.
    Help, please!

BTW - how long ago did you kill the profile? if within 5 days/boots you can restore an old registry, go into offline mode and change delivery location to a pst. then restore the backuped up registry.

Thank you so much for the prompt response.
Before I try the Exchange Recovery program, can you explain the registry fix? I'm really paranoid about getting in there.
So is that how it happened, the profile was deleted? How can I avoid doing this in future, or did a gremlin do it?

it's hard to say what happened - i'm guessing it did based on dealing with others who lost their ost. Most removed exchange from the profile and no longer have the exchange server to connect to.

do you know what you did to lose the ost?

That makes sense - removing Exchange from the profile - but it sure wasn't done deliberatly.
At any rate, can you step me through the fix?
    1. Back-up registry
    2. ?

    Re: In agony

has it been less than 5 boots ago? (at one boot per day?)

if yes, boot into command prompt
    at command prompt type scanreg
run scanreg then choose restore when it's done (there is a switch to bypass the first scan but i don't remeber it offhand)
choose the oldest registry in the list
if this doesn't restore the profile, you need to recovery tool.
if it does, open in offline mode, change delivery (tools | services) to a pst and let all the files move (may take forever if it's big)
