CPU Temperature (Intel P4)

Greetings to all...

In a way, this is a continuation of <post#=166748>post 166748</post#>, but every post in the thread mentioned AMD. My question is the same, except this is for the Intel crowd.

I just built an Intel system (P4 2.4 Ghz 533 - no overclocking) with an ASUS P4b533 motherboard and Leadtek's acclaimed Gforce4 Ti 4600 graphics card (with 2 fans). I also have 2 Western Digital Hard drives (7200 RPM). I have a total of 5 case fans - 1 in the Power Supply, 1 bottom-front blowing in, 1 in the side blowing in ( directly over the CPU and graphics card), and 2 in the top-rear sucking out.

Can anyone tell me what an average idle CPU/Motherboard temerature is for a similar Intel-based system?

My system currently runs at the following:
Idle - CPU: 84F/29C, MB: 91F/33C
Working hard! - CPU: 105F/41C, MB: 100F/38C.

Compared with the numbers I've seen posted for AMD, I feel quite safe. But still I wonder if this is decent for an Intel system?

Thanks in advance!

Mark - I'd be very happy with numbers like that. I don't know that there really is an "average" because the temperatures depend on many environmental factors: humidity, ambient room temperature, system ventilation, other heat producing components (GPUs and hard drives are notorious heat makers), and even the location of your PC tower. On the whole though....you're in the ballpark, just remember that the ballpark is pretty big.

Thanks, Mark.

I agree with you and I'm very pleased that it seems to be so reasonable. With all of the notorious heat-makers in my box (big, bad graphics card and two 7200RPM hard drives) I expected it to run much hotter...

I'm really glad I decided to add a fan in the side of the case (blowing directly onto the CPU and graphcis card).

As always, thanks for your help
