Scroll Feature (Excel 2000/ Windows 2000)

A user here has Excel 2000 on a Windows 2000 machine. Every spreadsheet he has scrolls up and down when he uses the scroll-button on his mouse. Only ONE spreadsheet scrolls right and left. Any idea why?

I have only had the left/right scroll option when I click the scroll-button; never when I scroll normally. Could someone help me with this? I hope I was clear.

Thanks.

I confess I don't understand your question. In order to scroll the horizontal bar left and right with my wheel mouse, I have to first put the pointer on top of the horizontal bar; if the pointer is anywhere else in the Excel window, the wheel only operates on the vertical scroll bar, up and down. (And I have no idea if I can change defaults to reverse this default behavior.) Does this relate to your question?

I was afraid I wasn't clear, but you were on the correct track.

Here's what's happening. In any normal spreadsheet, the user can scroll vertically regardless of pointer location. In only this one, particular spreadsheet does he have scroll problems. If he has the screen shrunken and is outside the spreadsheet's window, when he scrolls, the screen goes up & down (vertically). When he scrolls inside the spreadsheet, the screen goes right to left (horizontally).

I don't know what to do about this. Is there a setting somewhere I have missed, that he might have set/changed accidentally?

Does the screen zoom in and out when rolling the wheel? If so, uncheck Tools Options, General, Zoom on Roll with Intellimouse. If this spreadsheet has a number of columns selected as a frozen pane on the left side, it looks as if it is only scrolling left and right, the "vertical" part of the zoom is less perceptibe (if I'm making any sense).

If that's not it, I'm out of ideas.

The screen does not zoom in and out, just left and right. However, looking to see if something is frozen would be a good idea. Thanks for the suggestion; I'll try it.

Hi,
Does the workbook in question have the vertical scrollbar visible? This is a workbook specific setting under Tools-Options, though I must admit that on my WinXP/Excel2k setup my wheelmouse scrolls horizontally and vertically at the same time if I don't have the vertical scrollbar showing!

Meredith, if all else fails, could you attach it to a post (after deleting any confidential info) so we can all see if the behavior persists, and at least admire it if we can't figure it out?

I'm going to try the last few things mentioned. Unfortunately the user is out today, so I can't play around with the file.

If nothing works, I'll display it with pride!
