Mail again

Is anyone else having PM trouble?

I just received a PM, but when I click on it, it goes to my PM box but nothing is showing and the PM gif still flashes. My cookies are fine now and I can get there, but it isn't showing the message. This happened once before.

The New Mail icon should only flash three times then become static. (This is a relatively recent change.)

Are you saying it is flashing continuously?

Have you followed the guidelines in Post 109208?

Re: Mail again

Hi, Leif ~

Yes, sir, my browser has been optimized for the Lounge. I'm pretty confident this isn't the problem. I recently have been having mail problems here <post#=175602>post 175602</post#> Perhaps I wasn't clear as you addressed the wrong half of my statement.

I've received PM notices now several times recently via e-mail. I head to the Lounge or I am already in the Lounge, I click on the flashing PM icon and the hover banner tells me I have message(s) and loads the 'received' page, but no messages appear. I am logged in, recognized by name, am posting and editing as usual, but no matter from which direction I arrive at that page, no PM appearance.

I deleted cookies, rebooted, signed back in, etc.- still nothing.

I've retrieved my mail, but it took a day or so or by accident many hours later. An hour or so ago I decided to change skins - nothing - changed back to default - nothing - then tried Lizard, and was able to get my PMs.

This did not start until the flashing PM icon was changed recently.

Skins

Hi guys, can I ask a really dumb question? (okay so most of my questions probably are dumb), but what exactly is the "skin"? thanks.

Re: Skins

Wow Bruce, that is such an eye opener! Sort of like choosing a "theme" only for the browser, yes?
I had no idea I'd been using the "old style" but did notice this listed in my profile and wondered what it was. Thank you for the clarification and especially not making me feel like an idiot for asking.

You have a wonderful way with words, meaning your replies are easily understood. (And appreciated very much especially by this girl).

Hi, Cyber!

Quit it! You're questions are not dumb. You don't learn by not asking questions. The dumb one is the one you didn't ask - I'm sure you've heard that!

"Skins", Cyber, are graphic files used to change the appearance of the graphic user interface to a browser, application or other program. You know when you get a new colored face-plate for your cell phone? Same thing with many if not all computer programs. Eye candy to look pretty or reflect your personality.

You are using the "Old Style" skin for your browser while visiting the Lounge here & I am using the "Lizard" skin as indicated below (on my Lizard background).

Please click here to see all the skins available in the Lounge.

Re: Skins

Yes, it is sorta like a theme. Actually, it would be a part of a theme. A theme is essentially an assembly of skins, icons, cursors, sounds, and the like that are customized by a user to give his/her unit an overall feel that allows one to express their individuality and make one's computing environment & experience that much more enjoyable

The Stylesheet link I provided (which I now realize is the same as the "Quick Skin Search" at the top of this page) has small sample images of the Lounge skins which really don't do those nice skins any justice so I recommend clicking on them to get the larger view.

Re: Skins

I will Bruce, appreciate the tip to enlarge. I am familiar with themes and often create my own, but for some reason I did not associate "skins" with viewing the forum. Very cool! So much to learn, so little time. You folks have no idea how helpful I am finding this terrific resource. Once again I thank you.
