Can I edit the ScanDisk message?

I would like to play a joke on my wife by editing the message ScanDisk displays when it starts after an abrupt, improper, shutdown. Most often ScanDisk starts after our system hangs on shutdown. I want to edit the message to say something humorous.

If there's a way to do it, I've never heard of one. The text displayed by SCANDISK at reboot time is contained in the SCANDISK.EXE file - conceiveably you could hack the file with a hex editor or something, but I don't know if a) it would work and if it's worth the risk.

However, I may have a substitute suggestion that would work for you. Take a look at BlueScreen from the normally staid SysInternals - one of the most feared colors in the world of Windows is blue, and I'll give ya two guesses as to what this one does....and the first guess doesn't count.

Do you mean the risk that scandisk might not work...or that your wife might find out? Better not let Charlotte (or your wife) see your post.

Hey, I'm divorced...let my wife find out. I meant that hacking the EXE file would probably render it useless.
