    Digital Picture Manipulation (Any)

Does anyone know of an application or piece of software where photos (actually parts of pictures) can be selected and then places within a pre-determined spot on a form? Basically, this client wants to import a person's head shot into the application and then be able to place various head-wear (hats, etc) on top of the picture ... I doubt there is an easy way to do this in Acces and VB, but I thought I'd throw this out there to see of anyone had any suggestions.

    Thanks.

If you're trying to store images in an Access database, don't, no matter what your client wants. The poor performance and bloated size will be blamed on you regardless of any assurances to the contrary. Access and its forms don't understand doing anything with graphics but displaying them very simply. VB is a bit better, but you should probably post your question in Software Finds & Wants. Someone there might know of just the thing, possibly even an activex control you can use in VB or Access..

The software behind the stuff in <!post=Post #171915,171915>Post #171915<!/post> will knock their socks off. Check out the more complex demos where different images are combined.

Unfortunately, compared with an ActiveX control, the price is sky high.

    Hi Eileen,

Although you may not believe it, that sounds like a job for Macromedia Flash. I realize that most people think of Flash as only a tool for animation, but it's latest version has extended the capabilities far beyond.

In your situation, you could connect to a data source to retrieve the graphic you need (the head shot), then have the freedom to select various other items (hat, hair-piece, earrings, etc...) and drag-n-drop over your picture. The best example I could quickly locate is by Moen faucets. (Select items on the left to change the picture on the right)

Flash has a bit of a learning curve, particularly for VB developers - it uses a language similar to JavaScript. However, a project like you're describing could easily be done in a day or two by a Flash developer.

    Hope this helps...

Oh no, I think I might have to download a trial version of the Flash authoring environment. It's just TOO COOL.

Someone else created the wave - it's a smile, except it must be too big to display the entire pic in the panel... try [ thewave ] = <img src=/S/thewave.gif border=0 alt=thewave width=225 height=33>
