    Autocomplete 'to' (2000)

Is there a facility to autocomplete the TO field when addressing e-mails by tyoing in the first few letters or similar?

    Thanks

    Re: Autocomplete 'to' (2000)

Hit Ctrl-K and Outlook will attempt to resolve the name from what you have entered.

    Autocomplete 'to' (2000) and 2002

Follow this path in Outlook: Tools/Options/Preferences/Email Options/Advanced Email Options/check the box Automatic Name Checking. This is usually checked by default during the initial installation, but may not have been. This takes some practice getting used to how it works, the autocomplete may not occur until you have tabbed down to the subject box. I.e. type 'mike' then tab down to start the Subject field, the autofill occurs then. It displays as the Contact name underlined, not the actual email address. If more than one mike exists, a squiggly line will indicate there is more than one contact with this letter string, you can add some additional letters to further define which Mike or click the To name to see all the Mikes and select from that list. By understanding this, you will soon find out how many letters are required to reduce the choice to just the one contact. You may have only one Mike in your contact book, so 'mik' would to the trick, maybe a dozen, so 'mike se' might be necessary to find this particular Mike. The following MS KB link is for Outlook 2002, but the Autocomplete path is the same for 2000.

For Outlook 2002 users, the following link to MS Knowledge Base articles explains why your autocomplete might not work after migrating from 2000.
