Report: Displaying records from a linked table (2002)

    Hello,

I am sure this is another simple newby question but here goes anyway. My main table in my database has a drop down for "company names". This drop down is supplied by another table with just company names in it and of course the primary key "auto number" column. When I run a report which pulls from the main table I get a number in the "company name" field as opposed to the actual name of the company. I assume the primary key field from the record is being displayed instead. Why does this happen? Anybody.....

This is happening because the control on the report is bound to the CompanyID. You recordsource for the report needs to be a query, joining your "maintable" with the company table. Then, in your report you can make the controlsource the "CompanyName" rather than "CompanyID".
