    Office Toolbar (Win ME/Office 97)

How do I stop the OfficeToolbar from installing every time I start-up? In general, how do I decide what should run on start-up and what should not?

When you right click the left end of the toolbar and select "Exit" it should ask if you want to have it startup when Windows starts. Just click NO and it will not start up. Now you will need to go to the menu to get its started every time you want to use it.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

If the toolbar is vertical, one clicks on the top, not left, end.

It just exits without asking anything. Also, when the toolbar starts up it asks if I want to have it start up automatically. I say no, but the toolbar still continues to start. How about other programs that start up automatically. How do I control them?

Check your startup items. It should be in there. Never used WME, but if it's the same as W97, W2K and WXP, right-click your Start button, select Open or Open All Users (check both if you have both), navigate to Programs / Startup, and delete the shortcut. That's worked for me in WXP.

Note that there are other ways of making programs start automatically, but that should cover your basic question.

I followed your suggestions. There were two items in the StartUp folder , Microsoft Office ShortCut Bar and Office StartUp. I renamed both so as to invalidate them, but the toolbar continues to show up. How do other programs such as the anti-virus start automatically?

If you were to fire up MSConfig within the run pane you will see on the Startup tab what is being started at boot up.

My logic was wrong. Re-naming the shortcut will not stop it from running. I deleted it and the Office Toolbar no longer appears. Thank you.
