    Subtotals or Counts (Access 97)

I'm being forced to move to Access from AceFile. I'm trying to replicate a report in Access that I had in the previous database program.

I have a database which lists submissions made to magazines. What I can't seem to figure out is how to get a subtotal of each article submitted. In AceFile I designed a report that looked something like this (the dashes aren't really there, the message won't show the spacing of the report table otherwise):

    Article---------Publication---------Submitted----Returned----Response

    The Dog------The Y Review-----4/9/01----------5/9/01--------No
    ------------------The T Review-----5/10/01--------6/9/01--------No
    ------------------The B Review-----6/10/01--------7/9/01--------No
    ------------------The J Review-----7/10/01--------8/9/01--------No
    ------------------The S Review-----8/10/01-------9/10/01----- -No

    Subtotal: 5

    The Cat-------The Y Review-----4/9/01----------5/9/01--------No
    ------------------The T Review-----5/10/01--------6/9/01--------No
    ------------------The B Review-----6/10/01--------7/9/01--------No

    Subtotal: 3

And so on for each article. Damned if I can figure out how to even start.

    Ideas welcomed.

Re: Subtotals or Counts (Access 97)

    Hi,

add grouping in your report. Each time a new item is 'dicovered' a total is done in the footer of the group. It will look like:
In detail part of the group add your items in text boxes (TextBox ControlSource = FieldName) and in footer add also text boxes with the control source set to =Sum(fieldname).

    Hope it helps,

    Nick
