    What is the error message?

I assume you use the built-in Outlook editor rather than using Word as your e-mail editor... it might make a difference.

Get a Triangle with yellow exclamation mark and message is: Error occurred while checking spelling. There is only one button below which is OK. (Right, not using Word.) Click the OK and I get the same message again. After clicking OK second time finally it disappears but there was no correction of the spelling. Message will only go out when I click send and receive. ( I have also lost my outbox icon in the left pane.)

I'm seeing the same problem in Outlook 2000. We are using Outlook as the editor. We've run detect and repair as well. Have you found out what was causing the problem?

Re: Spell Check error (Outlook 2002)

I made a mistake in the subject matter - -It is Outlook 2000 that I have.
Wonder if we should change the subject line to reflect it. Sorry for the
mistake. Did you also install Netscape 7.0?? It happened after that
    install for me.

No - -I have not been able to repair this function. I ended up turning off spell check for Outlook.
Sure wish I knew the solution - -or where to ask. donna

PS: Spybot Search and Destroy pointed out that I had one Office file pointing to the wrong path. Thought
that might be the problem. The file was Msohtmed.exe and I corrected the path to show Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice
and checked Outlook 2000 again -- got the same spell check error.
Repair function did not work, updating ie6.0 to sp1 didn't fix it either.

Re: Spell Check error (Outlook 2002)

Sorry to hear you haven't solved it either. The user that is experiencing the problem here is actually the director of Marketing, so unfortunately, I have to find some way to fix it. It can't do to have your director of marketing misspelling words! <img src=/S/yikes.gif border=0 alt=yikes width=15 height=15>

No I didn't install Netscape, but we do have IE 6. I found an article on the knowledge base (article number Q241485). The article suggests a few different things, the first of which was to check that you have spell checker turned on - um - duh! Second it suggested reinstalling the proofing tools, and third suggested to make sure that you have a custom dictionary set up. I've tried the first two, but haven't had a chance to check on the custom dictionary yet.

I'll keep working on it. Thanks for your suggestion. I haven't tried it yet so that's next. I'll let you know what I find out.

Re: Spell Check error (Outlook 2002)

I read the Knowledge base article also. I don't have an entry in Office Tools that they mentioned:
"Ensure that a check is place next to the file Custom.dic. Click OK, OK, and then OK again."
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...;EN-US;Q241485&

In my list is "Suggest from main dictionary only." I unchecked that, made a file name with ending .dic. Of course, spell check does work in Word. Guess what!!! Just checked Outlook and I have spell check restored!!!! IT WORKS. donna

Re: Spell Check error (Outlook 2002)

The custom.dic was what did it for me too. I went and looked in the registry for the user that was having the problem. In the HKLM/software/microsoft/shared/proofing tools/custom dictionaries there was an entry "1" that pointed to the correct dictionary location, but in the same place in HKCU there was no entry. So, I created one and pointed it to the same custom.dic file and it worked. Glad that we're both back up and running!
